José Miguel del Pozo López

José Miguel del Pozo (*1985 in San Felipe, Venezuela) ist Schriftsteller und bildender Künstler. Er wuchs in Peking, China, und in Caracas, Venezuela, auf. Derzeit lebt und arbeitet er in Bern. In seiner disziplinenübergreifenden Praxis untersucht er die Beziehung zwischen Text und Bild anhand von Literatur, Zeichnungen, Installationen und Skulpturen. Dabei setzt er sich auf intime und kritische Weise mit dem Alltag auseinander.

Für seine Residenz im Forum Schlossplatz hat José Folgendes vor: «’Stranger in the Village’ wäre ein schöner Titel, aber das Aargauer Kunsthaus hat ihn bereits für eine Ausstellung verwendet. Daher verzichte ich auf den Titel, nutze ihn jedoch als eine Art Landkarte, die mich durch meine Residenz führt. Meine Recherchen haben mich zum Motiv des Fremden geführt, und mein Anliegen ist es, dies mit Konzepten des venezolanischen Pädagogen Simón Rodríguez zu verbinden. Rodríguez bezog sich seinerzeit auf die pädagogischen Ideen von Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi und adaptierte diese, um eine neue Vorstellung von (Süd-)Amerika zu entwickeln. Mithilfe von Cut-up-Archivpraktiken, Plakatdesign, Kochen und Schreiben nähere ich mich diesen höchst merkwürdigen intellektuellen Berührungspunkten zwischen zwei so unterschiedlichen Ländern an.

José Miguel del Pozo (*1985 in San Felipe, Venezuela) is a writer and visual artist. His multidisciplinary practice explores the relationship between text and image through literature, drawing, installation, and sculpture. His work reflects on the everyday with an intimate and critical approach. He was raised in Beijing, China; grew up in Caracas, Venezuela, and currently lives and works in Bern, Switzerland.

José has the following plans for his residency at Forum Schlossplatz: «Stranger in the Village» would be a nice name for this, but the Aargauer Kunsthaus already claimed it with a show some years ago, so I’m going to let it go, but I will use this title as a map of sorts to guide me throughout the residency. My current investigation has led me to the trope of the foreigner, and my aim is to connect this to some of the ideas put forward by Venezuelan educator Simón Rodríguez, which in his time took reference and adapted Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi’s pedagogic ideas to build a new idea of the (South)Americas.

Through cut-up archive practices, poster design, cooking and writing I will approach this most curious intellectual coincidence between such distinctive and different lands.
